So a few months ago I posted and mentioned I had plans to sell my E30 Touring. A serious buyer came out to check out the car after two months of it being for sale. While he was checking it out I said to myself “why the hell are you selling this car?” As rare as it is and the sentimental value I have towards it I decided to keep it.

I then decided to refresh the exterior and fix a few things with the cooling system. I bought a new radiator, thermostat, water pump, temp valves, and piping/hoses. After that was done I tackled the paint. Being single stage paint, detailing it will leave you with paint all over your pads and on your hands. You have to be careful doing it opposed to cars with clearcoat on the top layer. I bought a new kidney as well as grilles and roundels and restored the rest of the black plastic trim.

I compounded it with fast correcting cream and polished with perfecting cream. After those steps I made sure the surface was clean and applied a coating of Gtechniq V4. This is the first time I’ve used a ceramic type coating so I’m eager to see how it holds up. I put about 20 hours of work into the exterior and I am very happy with the finished product.

top five things I’d never say to a seller

“why the hell are you selling this car”

“are you sure you want to sell this car”

“ you should keep this car”

“I think you like this car more than I do”

You’re supposed to convince the seller that they don’t want it not the other way around.

Looks amazing! I went through the same thoughts of “what the hell am I doing trying to sell this thing?!” every previous time I listed my E30 for sale...but then we had a kid, and I didn’t have time for a toy car that was just a run of the mill 325i with 300k miles on it. It never would’ve made sense to really clean it up like you did.

Those tourings are beautiful vehicles - and that red is my favorite color on the E30. What’s next for the car?! I don’t remember what you’ve got under the hood of that thing. Itching for any engine swaps?

The buyer never asked me that. I said to myself, why the hell am i selling it. He was ready to give me cash for it, less than what i was asking but the final price hadn’t been negotiated yet but he was a serious buyer nonetheless. I couldn’t get myself to get rid of the car. Way too many memories with it and i fell in love with it again.

Oh I read that wrong. I though the buyer told you not to sell it. lol

Yeah they are fantastic cars. Driving newer cars and then driving this i s just a completely different experience. No power steering, no air conditioning, no ABS or traction control, crank windows, crank sunroof, and no power locks. Every drive in it is awesome.

I’ve got the stock M20B20 in it right now. It’s a bit anemic and i would love more power but i want to keep this car original. I’m thinking of doing an S54 swap in the future but we’ll see. The wife and I will be buying a house within the next three years and she needs a new vehicle as well so the engine swap won’t be for awhile, if i do end up going through with it. Still the original engine with only 130k miles on it so it has so much life left.

I think this is a forever car, gorgeous and built like a German tank. I often ponder the next project or purchase, while never making steps the sell the current car - so therein lies my answer hah!

I think it is as well. I’ve had a a good amount of cars over the last few years but this one hasn’t moved. It got close but i couldn’t get rid of it.
